Which is better NDA or IIT?

When it comes to IIT Vs NDA , it is really very difficult to answer which one is better as, both have their own significant role. While the National Defense Academy give our nation the best cadets who dedicate their life to their country on the other hand IIT give the best engineers of all time. Picking between NDA and IIT is like comparing apple and oranges. The common thing that you can find in both the institutions is that only the dedicated and extremely talented candidates make through the selection process. Although it is really difficult to say which one is best but on the bases of these points you will get a better idea.

  • Competition And Exam Pattern
Everyone knows about the competition level in both NDA and IIT exam. Out of all those who appear for the NDA only 300–400 are selected after the SSB while out of 15 lakh students who appear for JEE exam only 9–10 thousand are able to crack the exam. From the mentioned statistic one can get an idea of the difficulty level for the exam.
# NDA
The syllabus for the exam is quite vast in comparison to JEE exam. The candidates not only have focus on the subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology but should also be good in English and current affairs. The fight continues when it comes to crack the SSB. The exam pattern is also very different in comparison to the other exams.
# IIT
Only those candidates who have really good command over three subjects i.e Physics, Chemistry and Maths can dream of living in IIT. Unlike NDA exam, students only have to focus on written exam as, they don’t have to go through any physical test. But this is also the reason that it is more difficult in comparison to the NDA exam.
# My View
Those who have given both the exams have stated that the entrance exam of IIT is far tougher than the NDA exam. Although, the syllabus of IIT entrance exam is simple but the difficulty level of the questions are very high and the cut off just keeps on rising every year.
  • Academics
Both the institution provide a bachelor’s degree to candidates. Although NDA not only focuses on the academic sector like IIT but also on physical training but there are regular exams in which candidates have to perform well during the 3 year training.
# NDA
The three years of training period include rough physical and mental strengthening which is one hell of a ride. With this, there are regular exams that cadets have to go through. With all the peer pressure that candidates have to face it becomes even harder to perform good in the academics.
# IIT
IIT is an institution where only the best academic performer can survive. Students have to prepare number of assignments, projects, notes and then there are surprise tests also. In one way it can be said that IIT is for bookworms. Every single exam is like a new challenge to the students.
# My View
In IIT academics is all that you have to focus on and after 4 years of graduation one can have good life ahead. If you want a comfortable and easy life after your graduation then go ahead with IIT but, if you are one of those rare breed who dedicate their life to serve our country then the best option that you have is NDA.
  • Line Of Work
Both the institutions provide the best career prospects to the youngsters and it is one of the many reasons that candidates work so hard to get through. Although both are entirely different fields but the outcome of both of them are exceptional.
# NDA
The moment you enter the academy, you will feel that you have earned respect. After 4 years of hard work and training, cadets have permanent jobs in Indian army, navy and air force. The salary package given to an army officer is nearly 60–70 thousand and promotions are also given from time to time. After their long service in the Indian army, regular pension is also provided to the officers.
# IIT
IITians are paid way higher than any other B.tech degree holder of any other university. In the last semester MNC come to the IIT campus and hire talented students. The salary package is not specific but students are given lakhs and sometimes even Crore annually. Your academic record plays a very important role in the interview.
# My View
Although IITians are paid more handsomely than an army officer but there is no job security. If you are one of those who dream to live luxurious life then go for IIT but if you want a secured life, then NDA is the best place for you.
  • Everyday Challenges
Life is full of challenges and when one is looking forward to join NDA or IIT, he should know that how much struggle he have to go through. Both the institutions are related to different fields. While one institute throw challenges in the form of exams other just break the cadets through the ultimate harsh physical training.
# NDA
While living in the academy, everyday is different and challenging. Working continuously under strict rules is very difficult. The physical training that the cadets go through is all worth it at the end. In the academy cadets are pushed beyond their limits sometime to bring the best out of them. Even after the training period officers face many challenges in their life like moving around and not being able to stay with their family. It would be right to say that an officer is never off the duty.
# IIT
The struggle of the students begins from the very first year of graduation. There is continuous pressure over the students to perform best in the exams. The future of the students totally depend upon their academic performance. In IIT only those who can think out of the box can survive. Life of an engineer is not very easy as, they have to work really hard even in stressful conditions.
# My View
There is no profession in which you don’t have to face challenges. In NDA you have to focus on everything like physical training, mental challenges, regular exams etc which becomes very tough to handle at one time. Whereas, in IIT you mostly have to concentrate on your academics is also a challenge in itself.
Choosing between NDA and IIT depend totally on an individual’s choice. But in my opinion, NDA is a better option for those who have passion and desire to serve their country. While, by joining IIT you help to build economy of the country. No matter what, both an officer and engineer live a respected life.
Thanks!
